WCVB talks hotels, Days Inn
Does Warren County have a shortage of places to stay?
That was a question presented to the Warren County Visitors Bureau by Commissioner Dan Glotz during a Thursday meeting.
WCVB Executive Director Casey Ferry said that the branding firm set to work with Warren Worx wanted a room at the Hampton Inn but couldn’t get one.
“I can guarantee that Days Inn had rooms,” she said of the hotel on the west end.
“That’s what I’m hearing,” she said, “the availability of quality rooms, that can be an issue.”
It presents a challenge for what the WCVB can recommend.
“(I) want to feel good about where I’m sending (visitors),” Lisa Card, WCVB administrative assistant, said. “They want someplace to stay that, of course, is clean.”
She said the feedback she’s gotten is that people also are looking for places to stay close to bars and places to eat.
“They want something affordable as well,” she said.
The topic of the Days Inn came up again later in the meeting.
“It’s hard for us to say ‘Don’t stay here,'” Troy Clawson, WCVB board president said. “We’ve been wrestling with that for a few years.”
“The word is it’s an absentee owner,” Ferry said, noting that she reached out to the owner but never heard back.
“We’ve tried as much as we can in our capacity,” Clawson said. “You can’t make a property owner do the right thing.”
