Stanton brings home awards at state junior horse and dressage show
A Warren County 4-H student has brought home a slew of awards from the Pennsylvania Jr. Horse and Dressage Championship Show.
The show was held this past weekend at the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds in Centre Hall.
Hialeah Stanton with the Kinzua Ridge Runners took four horses to the show, bringing home a third place, sixth place, reserve champion and grand champion awards individually as well as a team award.
With three-year-old Merlin, Stanton took third in the championship halter round and a master showman ribbon as well as sixth in the western performance walk trot championship.
She took home reserve champion in in-hand trail with one-year-old Dixie and grand champion overall in western type pony with two-year-old Malibu.
She also worked with Louie to enter the grand champion category.
She tied with Reed Messer from Butler County to win the championship in ground roping, taking home the top prize after a “rope off.”
On the team side, she was part of a group with five other girls from Elk County, finishing in second just one point behind the top score.
According to the Penn State Extension, classes are judged preliminarily with all blue ribbon winners moving to Championship class.
“Exhibitors will also be evaluated for Master Showman awards in the preliminary in hand classes,” the Extension states. “All Master Showman award winners will advance to compete for the Champion Showman award.”
