City council honors Conarro for her service

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Mary Connaro addresses Warren City Council on Monday night. She was recognized for decades of service to the community as she tendered her resignation from the Parks, Recreation and Landscape Commission.
Monday’s Warren City Council meeting included discussion of infrastructure, pensions and subdivisions.
But recognizing decades of service to the city was “by far the most important thing we are going to do tonight,” said Mayor David Wortman.
Council received a letter of resignation from the Parks, Recreation and Landscape Commission from Mary Conarro.
“Mrs. Conarro has served this community in so many ways, more than we can count,” Wortman said, “in the multitude of ways over the course of several decades.”
That included service as a member of the City Council from 1994 to 2001.
“She has been an ardent champion and supporter of countless community projects through her participation, her philanthropy and her voice,” he added.
Wortman said that a park bench would be placed in her honor “in recognition of all Mrs. Conarro has contributed.”
Conarro said she came to Warren in 1957.
“The greatest thing for my life was to be here in Warren because Warren had everything to contribute,” she said, “and the people were also wonderful.”
She highlighted an effort to save Crescent Park as a highlight of her time on the council.
“My other achievement probably was to help preserve the city pool which provides so much joy to children,” she said. “I found out recently even the children of Jamestown come down to enjoy it.”
“I wish you good luck,” she told the council. “Thank you for all that we have had.”
