Unemployment rate in Warren County ticks up in April

The unemployment rate in Warren County rose in April.

The seasonally-adjusted rate sits at 3.6 percent – up from 3.3 percent in April – according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Center for Workforce Information and Analysis released last week.

The rate was also at 3.6 percent in April 2023.

Warren County’s rate is on par with the rest of the region.

Rates for Bradford and Erie were 3.8 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively, 4.5 percent in Forest County, 3.4 percent in Meadville and 3.8 percent in Oil City.

Warren County came in below the state unemployment rate of 3.4 percent and the federal unemployment rate which came in at 3.8 percent in March.

The data shows an increase in the number of people in the labor pool and job gains in several industry sectors.

According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics at the U.S. Department of Labor, seasonal adjustment “is a statistical technique that attempts to measure and remove the influences of predictable seasonal patterns to reveal how employment and unemployment changes from month-to-month.”

“These seasonal adjustments make it easier to observe the cyclical, underlying trend and other nonseasonal movements in the series,” making it possible to compare month-to-month.
