Pa. Park Funds to award funding to Sugar Grove, Youngsville parks

Two municipal parks in Warren County are set to receive $50,000 in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Parks Fund.

The Sugar Grove Community Park and Island Park in Youngsville

“I wanted to create a grant process that was easy for the parks and great for the donor,” Justin Spencer, project director and founder of PPF, said. “I believe the new setup accomplishes just that.

“The new set up makes it easier for PPF to collect donations from the public, businesses and foundations. It also helps donors keep track of what their donations will be used to fund.”

The Fund will fundraise through Feb. 2025 with the grant dollars to be disbursed in April 2025.

According to the PPF, the Sugar Grove project aims to construct “a stage and protection screen to facilitate diverse outdoor performances and events, fostering community cohesion and cultural enrichment.”

Project costs include $30,000 for the structure and $20,000 for visual and sound systems.

A series of maintenance-type items are identified for Island Park – basketball court and baseball infield resurfacing, turning the tennis court into a pickleball court, upgrades to the outside patio area and new playground equipment.

A trail is also proposed around the perimeter of the park.

“Those wanting to donate can do so on the Pennsylvania Parks Fund website which can be found at PennsylvaniaParks.org,” Spencer said. “To fund our grants, we will gladly accept support from individuals, families, businesses and foundations.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
