A Warren County corrections officer sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of an accidental shooting Monday morning.

Warren County Jail Warden Rusty Barr said the incident occurred just before 9:30 a.m. “from a single gunshot wound caused from an accidental discharge.”

Barr said the incident occurred during a training exercise.

The officer is not identified in a release from the jail.

“This officer,” Barr said, “was treated immediately with first aid from other staff and EMS.”

The individual was transported to UPMC Hamot for further treatment.

Barr said Monday afternoon that the officer was treated and released “and is expected to make a full recovery.”
