For nearly two decades, the Borough of Tidioute and Tidioute Charter School have collaborated on beautification and maintenance projects in town.
The school’s older students take a day near Memorial Day to skip indoor learning and do service work for their community every year. This year, they had groups of supervised students painting parking lines in town and by the boat launch, staining the playground, hauling and laying mulch, planting flowers, weeding, cleaning, and painting railings at the school.
Students working on conservation day with the borough is just one component of how this community truly works together and creates bonds intergenerationally.
Local businesses such as Moore’s Garden Shoppe, Etc. and J. Lauren Interior Design provide flowers and planting designs.
Doug Manning, who wears multiple hats as the borough president and teacher at TCCS, worked alongside his group to repaint the lines of the parking spaces downtown.

While some mentioned it being “too hot,” most students were happy to be out of the classroom and helping the community. TCCS student Makayla Sears said she enjoys conservation day, “Hey, we did that…getting to see what we accomplished.”
