A Russell man is behind bars and has been charged with criminal homicide in the wake of a shooting that occurred in Russell on Monday evening.

Mark E. Saullo, 62, Russell, was arraigned this morning by District Judge Laura Bauer and bail was denied on the homicide count.

Troopers identify the victim as Keith R. Haskins, 55, Russell.

A statement from the Pennsylvania State Police indicates that troopers were dispatched shortly before 9:30 p.m. to 2 S. Main St. for a report of a shooting.

Troopers allege that a brief altercation occurred prior to Saullo retrieving the firearm and firing one round which struck Haskins.

Troopers indicate that Haskins “succumbed to his injuries on scene.”
