Due to inclement weather, the Pine Grove Township Memorial Day Service was relocated from the Pine Grove Cemetery to the Russell United Methodist Church. Despite the venue change, the event saw an impressive turnout, with more than 150 residents in attendance.

The ceremony featured the participation of the Russell Volunteer Fire Department, the Eisenhower Band, and Troop 14 Boy Scouts. In preparation for the Memorial Day weekend, Troop 14 honored fallen soldiers by placing 750 American flags at their gravestones in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Katie Walker, Secretary of Revitalization of Akeley and Russell, delivered a moving speech, emphasizing the unity that defines America and expressing hope for the future. She said, “Our community is a testament to the spirit of unity that defines America. … We find solace and hope in the days and years to come.”
