The average life of a marching band uniform is eight to 10 years.

The current age for the uniforms around the WCSD? Over 20 years.

Director of Administrative Support Services Eric Mineweaser told the school board this week that new uniforms have been a topic of conversation since the pandemic.

He said he’s working with the county’s band directors on what that purchase might look like.

Mineweaser explained that the current proposal is an “actual base uniform for all the schools” that would be the same with interchangeable, school-specific pieces.

He said the cost is about $600 per uniform and an additional $100 for each raincoat.

“Last year we had 74 actual band participants” across the district, he said. An additional 25 percent is also recommended given the need to have various sizes.

No concrete proposal was before the board as Mineweaser said they’re still “looking at costs.”
