Mental health seminar at Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Warren Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Russell, to host a MindFit seminar to shed light on the mental health crisis, and provide hope during a four-part documentary-style series, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday at 6616 Market St.

The MindFit seminar will continue through April 7.

Researchers estimate that one in five North Americans suffers from a mental health condition. Furthermore, between 2007 and 2017, the number of those grappling with mental health conditions and substance use disorders grew by 13 percent — and rose even more in the wake of COVID-19.

The four-part series of the MindFit seminars will break down harmful stigmas and highlight effective treatments. Admission is free.

The series, hosted by Voice of Prophecy Associate Speaker Alex Rodriguez, will address questions such as: what are the most common mental health challenges people face; how has the history of treating mental illness shaped society’s perceptions of it; and how does that history inform the most current treatments.

Following each document-style presentation, local moderator Scott Carter will lead a study and discussion on each session’s topic. The seminars aim to provide hope for those who are struggling with mental health challenges, as well as for their loved ones.

At each session, attendees will receive a special edition of Vibrant Life magazine that provides more details and life application tips.

“Millions of people throughout North America are battling mental health issues every day. It’s clear our homes need healing, but the problem can be overwhelming to even think about,” Rodriguez said. “In MindFit, you’ll join us on a journey to find answers and hope. Along the way, we’ll meet men and women who have struggled with mental conditions and discover the encouraging breakthroughs that have helped them find health and stability.”
