The Warren County School District art department has partnered with the Warren Library to hold an art show in honor of Youth Art Month, with the exhibit on showcase currently through March 30.

The kickoff of the March art show began on March 6 with an open house.

“Lots of proud families attended the Youth Art Month open house on March 6 to see the artwork of their talented young children on display,” according to the Warren Library Facebook.

The Youth Art Month show highlights the work of current Kindergarten through Eighth grade students. According to Art Teacher Heather Walters, “The work entered into the show is created in a range of different media both 2D and 3D. The student artists worked with clay, paint, markers, drawing pencils, colored pencil, mixed media, collage, etc.”

Youth Art Month began in 1961 to celebrate awareness and advocacy for art in schools. It is observed nationally every March with art shows in local libraries and museums. According to Walters, the Youth Art Month show is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their artistic abilities. This year’s selected artwork from students has left them “generally very excited” with “great pride in their work” showcased.

“I was at the gallery this past weekend and a student from the Warren Area Elementary Center was there viewing the show. He explained to me that his work had been selected as he beamed with pride,” recalled Walters. “We engaged in a delightful conversation where he explained the artistic process through which he created the work, and he relayed how the outcome of the beginning stages of his work altered the color choices he made while finishing up the piece.”

The showcase is Walters’ hope that “through art classes and special events like The Youth Art Month Art Show that the students develop a creative mindset and life-long appreciation for and habit of creating art.”

The public is encouraged to visit the art show throughout March at the Warren Library to view this student exhibit.

The next student art show will occur at the Warren Area High School in May.
