Letter to victim adds charge for Warren man

A Warren man behind bars on rape charges now faces that he tried to convince the victim to drop the case in a letter he tried to send from the county jail.

Fred L. Rickabaugh, 49, faces two sets of charges.

He entered a not guilty pleas before Judge Gregory Hammond on March 21 to charges of rape, strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

Online court records show that he has been incarcerated since Feb. 19.

The alleged letter was sent a week later, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Warren County detectives.

Detectives allege that the letter addresses the victim of that case, who is also subject to a PFA.

Authorities allege he attempted to tell her that she is “better than doing this” and asked her to not “take my life away” and “just don’t go to the hearings or tell them you want everything dropped….”

Later in the letter he allegedly offered to “give you whatever you want” if she dropped the charges.

Detectives charged Rickabaugh with a first-degree felony count of intimidating a witness or victim for the letter.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been continued to May 8.
