Pittsfield man charged for shooting dog with crossbow

A Pittsfield man remains behind bars on charges stemming from an incident where he allegedly shot his dog with a crossbow.

Tyler C. Harmon, 33790 US 6, was charged by Warren-based Pennsylvania State Police on Jan. 22 with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

Warren-based Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to 37900 Rt. 6 for a report of a deceased dog on the back porch.

Troopers, according to the affidavit of probable cause, went to the back porch and observed a dog bed and blanket and say that “it was apparent something was inside of the blanket.”

Harmon was interviewed by troopers, who allege that he “grabbed his already cocked crossbow, putting a bolt on it” before he allegedly “went down the stairs with crossbow in hand. Harmon then shot the crossbow at his dog, which is a tan in color female pitbull.”

Troopers alleged that “as a result of Harmon’s actions, the dog died; at which time he then wrapped it up with a blanket placing it on the back porch of the residence.”

They added that Harmon uncovered the dog and “it was apparent to troopers” that the dog has a “hole in its rear extremities consistent with the broadhead of a bolt.”

The incident allegedly occurred between Jan. 19 and Jan. 22.

Online court records show that Harmon was arraigned by District Judge Laura Bauer on Monday and placed in the county jail on $10,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 7.

Starting at $3.50/week.
