ANF proposes new trail segments at Morrison, Powerhouse site

A proposal by the Allegheny National Forest would see three additional miles of trails added to the Morrison hiking trail system, shown here.

Two new trail segments have been proposed on the Allegheny National Forest.

An additional three miles of trail is proposed for the existing Morrison trail system off Rt. 59 while another 1.5 mile proposal would build a trail connecting the Bradford Ranger District Office to the Powerhouse Historic Site along Rt. 321.

Federal officials say that the Powerhouse Trail would “connect two frequently visited sites and offer a premier hiking experience.”

The additional three miles at Morrison would be built to “Trail Class 3 Bicycle Trail parameters.” The Morrison system is currently open to mountain biking.

Project documents do not indicate any timeline for when the trails might be built.

The ANF is currently seeking comments on the proposals through Feb. 24.

Comments can be made online at the ANF’s website, by the mail to the Bradford District office and by phone (814) 363-6000 – during business hours.

The comment window will be open through Feb. 24.
