Youngsville honors McKinney, Clawson

Councilman Troy Clawson was honored for his 10 years of service on Youngsville Borough Council.

Two individuals were honored for their service at a recent meeting of the Youngsville Borough Council.

Randy McKinney was awarded the borough’s community service award. McKinney has worked to organize volunteers through the Youngsville Cemetery Association. Council noted that without the volunteer maintenance, the borough would be required to take on the cost.

“We’ve got a lot of volunteers,” McKinney said while thanking them as a whole. “But we need more.”

Councilman Troy Clawson was also honored for 10 years of service on council. Clawson was re-elected in November for another term.

Police Chief Todd Mineweaser announced the department had received a letter of resignation from patrolman Jason Woodin.

He also announced the department had received a resume from an interested individual who has previously served as a police officer in Kane, Oil City and Warren.

It was announced the borough had been cited following a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection water inspection held last month. The borough received a tier 2 violation over an incident involving chlorine levels coming into the system entry point on Division Street that occurred in July.

The borough did not realize at the time that the incident constituted a permit violation. It was reported that once the issue was found it was resolved and it is not believed any of the water in question made it to residents. Borough public works plans to update its procedures and will be sending a letter to residents informing them of the violation.

A letter asking for an extension to complete work to bring a blighted property on Ranger Way into code compliance or raze it was received from Hessley Law Offices. Council agreed, provided the owner makes the property secure against entry.

Borough Manager Wendy Wilcox thanked the Youngsville Hometown Christmas participants and noted they have even more volunteers for next year.

“I think it will continue to grow,” she said.

It was also announced the borough is looking for volunteers to serve on various borough boards and commissions. Seats are currently open on the planning, police pension and recreation commissions and on the zoning board. Residents can submit a letter of interest by mail to the borough office, in person or by email to wwilcox@youngsvilleboro.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
