‘All worth it’

Cemeteries in northern tier participate in Wreaths Across America

Wreaths representing each branch of the armed forces were laid Saturday as part of a ceremony in Sugar Grove.

Three cemeteries in the northern tier are graced with wreaths as part of the Wreaths Across America initiative.

The Wesleyan, Lottsville and Turnpike cemeteries saw wreaths placed on the graves of veterans after a ceremony held at the Sugar Grove Town Park.

“It takes a lot of people to make an event like this happen,” Judy Fry explained, “including funding and behind the scenes work and it’s all worth it.”

These three cemeteries – as well as St. Joseph in Warren and Tidioute – were among the more than 3,000 cemeteries where wreaths were placed on Saturday.

Fry said that veterans with the AMVETS Post 50 and Sugar Grove Legion 758 placed wreaths representing each branch with the help of Boy Scouts and members of the Civil Air Patrol.

The speaker for the event was Rep. Kathy Rapp who, Fry said, “spoke about the Wreaths Across America theme – ‘Honor, Remember, Teach’ – and our troops, some of which have been headed to the Red Sea.

“We continue to think about all these active military people and their families,” Fry said.

Paul Tutmaher played Taps to conclude the event.

Fry added that Tina Johnson was the emcee and that Johnson’s son, a veteran, “had the honor of placing a wreath and continuing on to Turnpike cemetery to place a Wreath for her veteran father.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
