School board committees receive reports

The Warren County School Board heard a number of informational items during its committee meetings.

The final auction of goods from the former Pleasant Township Elementary building was held. The district brought in $11,751 after expenses from the sale. Sale of the building itself is expected to be finalized Nov. 30.

Superintendent Amy Stewart announced enclosure of classrooms at Beaty-Warren Middle School and Eisenhower Middle High School was mostly completed with only minor work to be done over Thanksgiving break, HVAC units at the Warren County Career Center had been installed and preparatory work was in progress for the Youngsville Elementary School boiler project.

A donation report was presented. The document shows the district has received more than $82,000 in donations from various individuals and organizations so far this fiscal year, which began in July.

A regular report on the status of grants, including grants requested, received, denied and in process was presented. The district has received just over $3 million in grants so far out of approximately $3.4 million in submissions.

A report on the turnout for recent parent/teacher conferences was presented. The report detailed how many conferences were held, by what means of communication and who was involved compared to total enrollment, number of teachers and number of teachers participating.

Committee members also moved multiple items for consideration by the full board at its next meeting including:

an agreement with Brainfuse for online tutoring services;

an agreement with the National Student Clearinghouse to aid in tracking what students move on to after high school;

a change in the course code for computer education at the Warren County Career Center;

planned instruction for elementary and grade 8 computer courses;

a Roger Billings Rescue Grant for purchase of licenses for the Acellus online learning program;

an agreement with Lifetouch for provision of visual media, such as student IDs and yearbook media;

an agreement with PowerSchool for software and licenses used by teachers and administration;

a quote from IBM for subscription and support services for the Cognos Analytics system;

a submission for a Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh Science Equipment Grant for science equipment at Eisenhower Middle School;

an affiliation agreement with the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford which is still being finalized;

a request for a new position of secretary to the director at the district’s central office;

and various personnel reports, contracts and resignations.
