Renowned health speakers coming to Struthers

A trio of world-renowned speakers will be at the Struther’s Library Theatre this Saturday to give presentations on the effects of diet and nutrition on health.

The day kicks off at 8:45 a.m. with introductions followed by a presentation by Dr. T. Colin Campbell.

Campbell is a biochemist whose work has focused on the impact nutrition has on long-term health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University. Chair of over 40 graduate research projects in his more than 60-year career, Campbell headed the first joint research project between the U.S. and China following restoration of diplomatic relations in 1972. The project was a joint effort between Cornell University, Oxford University, the China Academy of Preventive Medicine and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The work led to the New York TImes bestselling book “The China Study.” A petition for his nomination for the Nobel Prize has been put forward by otolaryngologist Dr. Jamie Koufman

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn will follow.

The Cleveland Clinic’s Esselstyn Heart Disease Program is named for him. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. IN the years after, he served as president of staff and a member of the board of governors for the clinic. He is author of the New York Times bestseller “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease.”

Following Campbell and Esselstyn’s presentations, a break will be held before a patient panel speaks about their personal experiences with diet and its impact on their health issues.

Brenda Davis, a registered dietician and international speaker and author, will follow after lunch.

Davis is an expert on plant-based nutrition and has spoken in more than 20 countries. She has authored or co-authored 13 books, many of which have won awards.

“We are so incredibly honored to have these three internationally acclaimed speakers coming to Warren. All three of these speakers are among the eight Luminary Award winners, a lifetime achievement award given by Plantrician Project, and are highly sought after around the world,” Janeen Beard – founder of the Lander Hope Clinic in Russel, which is sponsoring the event – said. “When I was invited to join the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutritional Studies Medical Advisory Board, I found that I was able to meet and collaborate with these internationally recognized health experts who were also driven by the desire to help reverse diseases.”

Following Davis, Beard; a certified family nurse practitioner, will speak. She “will discuss how the concepts laid out by the first three speakers create the basis for medical care that heals and reverses diseases.”

After Beard speaks, a 90-minute question and answer session with the speakers will be held.

Following the event, speakers will be available to sign books.

“It will be exciting to share the stage with these longtime mentors. They have each meant so much to my growth in the medical field,” Beard said. “The willingness of all three of these individuals to support the clinic as we grow has been such an inspiration.”

Lunch is being provided by two local restaurants and will feature whole-foods, plant-based meals. Attendees may also bring their own lunch.

The event is free to the public and does not require reservations. Seating will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
