Commissioners approve grant request for courthouse rehabilitation

The Warren County Commissioners are seeking state grant dollars to fund rehabilitation of the Warren County Courthouse.

Total estimated cost is $1.7 million and the commissioners approved a $1 million grant application through the Pa. Local Share program.

According to the state, this is a program funded by gaming revenue.

The county’s grant writer, Kim Slocum, said that the deadline for the grant is Nov. 30 and that the county is working with the state Department of Community and Economic Development and the Northwest Commission in preparing the documentation.

The scope of work includes the exterior of the courthouse below the roof line. Work to renovate above the roofline was completed several years ago.

This grant application does not include restoration work to the interior of the main courtroom as it will be the subject of a separate grant application next year.

In other business, the commissioners approved both the annual local match amount as well as the $7,000 request from the Transit Authority of Warren County discussed during Monday’s work session regarding the heating system at the facility.

The commissioners also approved a lease with the U.S. Postal Service for District Judge Todd Woodin’s office to remain at the post office building in Youngsville.

Starting at $4.00/week.
