WoodMobile makes encore stop

Photos by Jacob Perryman The WoodMobile, a trailer that aids in providing information about the state’s forests and forest product industries provided by the Pennsylvania Hardwoods Development Council, visited Warren County School District’s central office in Russell Thursday afternoon.

Warren County School District third graders who missed their chance to see the Pennsylvania WoodMobile last May due to issues surrounding the search for Michael Burham finally got to tour the mobile exhibit, albeit as fourth graders.

“We’re going to be doing this again at the fairgrounds in May with third graders,” Warren Forest Higher Education Council School to Work Coordinator Jenny Burroughs said.

The WoodMobile, provided as a free service by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Hardwoods Development Council and the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association, provides an “interactive experience educating visitors about the commonwealth’s forests, the forest products industry and the benefits of wood products,” according to the Hardwoods Development Council.

Information on danger to the forest, such as invasive species, is also included in the presentation.

Students also saw presentations from regional organizations on forest-related jobs in the region. Presentations from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Allegheny National Forest and private companies, including representatives from the oil and gas and timber industries, were provided at various stations for small groups of students at a time.

Grade four Warren County School District students enter the WoodMobile Thursday afternoon.

“This is an opportunity for the kids to learn about the careers that are in our area,” Burroughs said. “It gives them the chance to learn about future opportunities.”
