For area Halloween enthusiasts, Warren County Historical Society’s Haunted House and Trolley tours, may be a go-to event .

The haunt is scheduled for Friday and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Upon arrival to the society’s Victorian mansion, located at 210 Fourth Ave., guests will wait their turns to ride in the horse-drawn trolley to hear tales of some of Warren’s past residents.

“Whenever you do (experience) the trolley tours, you get (to hear) spooky stories,” said event coordinator Sara Bogniak.

If guests choose, at their own risk, they also can experience the haunted house. Bogniak said each room in the mansion will have its own theme. On the first floor, the parlor will be transformed into a funeral parlor where guests will be welcomed by “Scary Margaret,” Bogniak said.

One of the spooky stories guest will hear is one about Charles Anderson.

“As we begin our tour, we pass the Warren County Courthouse and Jail. Our first tale actually happened below the Jail. In 1911, the Warren Weekly Times reported a story of a man named Charles Anderson. One dark night such as this, Charles was minding his own business, walking along the side of the jail, when he clearly saw an arm reaching out of the sewer grate near the jail.”

To hear the rest of story, Bogniak said, you need to take the tour.

The trolley departs from the from the back parking lot of the historical society near the Warren County Jail and turn right on Fifth Avenue. From there, the trolley continues on Fifth Avenue to Water Street. At Water Street it makes a right and continues to Second Avenue. At Second Avenue, it makes a right and continues to Liberty Street. At Liberty Street, it makes a right and continues to Fourth Avenue. At Fourth Avenue, it will make a right turn, and return to the historical society.

The trolley rides are one half hour apart. The stories are matched to the locations that the trolley will pass by.

Trolley tickets are $11 presale and $13 at the door and includes the Haunted House. Tickets just for the Haunted House are $5 per person.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Historical Society, and apple cider and cookies will be provided.
