Deadline to avoid tax sale set for Friday

If you’ve got a property that’s slated to go to next Monday’s upset tax sale, the deadline to pay to avoid that sale is quickly approaching.

Tax Claim Director Phil Gilbert said the deadline to pay is Friday at 4 p.m. in advance of the sale, which is set for Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

“This sale is for all back taxes and costs, and any municipal liens submitted to me,” Gilbert said. “Buyers would be responsible for any liens or judgements against the property.”

As of Wednesday morning, there are 132 properties on the sale list but that was already down from 162 earlier in the week.

There are severable sizable parcels that remain on the list.

That includes 78 acres on Pine Valley Road in Columbus, a 41-acre parcel in Conewango Township and then three with 40 acres or more in Eldred Twp. – two on Buells Corners Road and one on Oil Creek Road.

Of the 132 total, 22 are located in the City of Warren while 17 can be found in Sheffield Township.

The site of a former machine company, 1501 Pennsylvania Ave. W. appears to be the most notable commercial property potentially going to the sale.

Gilbert said the list “will be updated on the website periodically through the day as people pay.”

That rate of payment is “right on pace,” he said. “Last year we had 40 or so at sale.”
