There are several county departments that have mobile radios as part of their operation. Each department has typically negotiated its own agreement for the maintenance of those radios.
But there's savings to be had by bringing those radios under one agreement -- and the county commissioners appear set to take that action on Wednesday.
Public Safety Director Ken McCorrison said an agreement with Capital Area Communications would cover Juvenile Probation, Adult Probation, the Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office as well as the Department of Public Safety.
This covers both mobile radios – the type that go in police cars and fire trucks – as well as portable radios.
"We routinely always have a couple that are going to be repaired," McCorrison said.
He added his department was paying double what the new agreement will cost. "It doesn't make sense for everyone to negotiate their own contract," he added.
In other business, Commissioner Tricia Durbin said the county didn't have an update on the status of broadband funding applications that have been submitted. "(We're) still waiting to see what is going to occur as it relates to Warren County," she said, noting that there were a "number of proposals (that) were put in on our behalf."
Commissioner Jeff Eggleston added that a proposed courthouse renovation aimed at restoring the facade below the roof line, among other items, will be rebid next month.
