A recent fundraiser for the Warren Cancer Care Center generated $14,000.
The Zampogna family, which owns Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Kane, organized a “Screw Cancer” fundraiser on July 8 and 9.
The Zampogna family wanted to do something in honor of their dad, Ron Zampogna, who was recently diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer,” Mary Ridout, Warren General Hospital’s director of marketing and communications, said.
“They also wanted to honor their friend Mike “Woody” Thompson, who has been a strong cancer warrior, and Mary Bernhard’s mother, Anna Anderson, who recently passed away from cancer,” she said.
The event included a day of music, wine, cocktails and auction items as well as a prayer and luminary lighting.
“People were invited to talk about their fight with cancer and gave testimonials about their care at the Warren Cancer Center and the importance of blood donations in their own lives,” Ridout said.
A companion blood drive resulted in 20 pints, as well.
“On behalf of all of us at Warren General Hospital Cancer Care Center we thank you for choosing Warren General Hospital as the recipient of your fundraiser,” Ridout said. “We are truly honored and appreciate your giving back in such a meaningful way.”
