Tidioute to hold inaugural Fun Days this weekend
TIDIOUTE — Tidioute is ready to have some fun.
Following a decline in attendance for its alumni reunion event, this year the community is trying something with a broader scope. The inaugural Tidioute Fun Days event is slated to run today through Sunday.
The event welcomes, “all people who have lived, camped or visited Tidioute,” according to information on the Tidioute Borough website.
“Attendance dwindled,” according to Heather Cass, one of the event organizers. “So we opened it up to a larger audience. Hopefully, as the event grows, it’ll become a bigger event that people will plan on and bring a bigger audience.”
Events kick off this afternoon with rock skipping demonstrations from 4 to 6 p.m. and a dance featuring “Flashback” from 7 to 11 p.m. at the fishing tournament grounds.
On Saturday, ballfield events and games will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. From 1 to 3 p.m. an “Old Timers Ballgame” of one pitch softball will be held. From 4 to 6 p.m. a scavenger hunt is planned.
At 8 p.m. a bonfire at the ballfield will be held. Wrapping things up for the day will be a movie at the school at 9 p.m. Additionally, a history tour of Tidioute and school tours will be held, and the foundation room will be open.
“Make sure you bring your chairs if you’re coming to the dance or the movie,” Cass noted.
Cass said organizers plan to hold a brainstorming meeting Sunday after the event “to work out any kinks.”
“We’re hoping, although it’s the first year, that it’s successful and people enjoy it.”
There is no charge for events.
“It’s all free,” Cass said.
Cass described the event as a family-oriented event to showcase Tidioute.
“We want to show what Tidioute really is,” she said. “(Things like) rock skipping and fireflies.”
