Judge denies effort to overturn Sheffield school proposal

An effort to stop the Warren County School District’s proposed plan to bus Sheffield students to Warren for three core classes each day has been rejected in county court.

2 Schools, 1 Fight, the organization created in opposition to the district’s attempts at school reconfiguration, brought suit against the WCSD and sought an injunction to stop the move.

Judge Gregory Hammond in a Wednesday order sided with the WCSD and dismissed the suit, though his order notes that the parties have 30 days to appeal the decision to Commonwealth Court.

The crux of the argument from 2 Schools, 1 Fight was that the proposal approved by the district amounts to a substantial closure of the school and that the district failed to comply with closure requirements in the Pennsylvania School Code.
