PennDOT to hold learning session for roundabout
Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Paving is underway on the southern portion of the roundabout at Pennsylvania Ave. and Market St. in Warren. If the weather permits, traffic patterns will shift on Friday as the project moves from phase one to phase two.
The lion’s share of PennDOT’s responsibility is getting the roundabout at Market Street and Pennsylvania Avenue constructed.
But from there, there’s one additional piece of the puzzle to be addressed: helping the public understand how to use it.
PennDOT has scheduled a “Warren Roundabout Public Education Session” for July 26 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Allegheny Community Center, 42 Clark St.
“The free program, which will include tips on using the improved intersection and general information about safely navigating roundabouts,” PennDOT District Safety Press Officer Saxon Daugherty said.
The project is currently in the second of four phases as eastbound traffic is using a completed portion of the roundabout.
Detours that come along with this second phase include: southbound traffic on Market Street will still use Route 62 to Laurel Street to Pennsylvania Avenue while northbound traffic will use Langdon Drive and Clark Street to get to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue will use Fourth Avenue and Laurel Street.
A truck detour for westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue to Market Street heading north will use Pennsylvania Avenue East to the Glade Bridge, US 60 to Ludlow Street and then Pennsylvania Avenue to Laurel Street.
Stage two started several weeks ago and is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.
Pennsylvania Avenue traffic appears to get back to some sense of normalcy with stage three which, according to PennDOT “will include opening another portion of the roundabout for westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue coming from Market Street. Eastbound traffic will continue to use a portion of the roundabout.
According to PennDOT, the final stage — stage four — is planned for August and will include final paving, street lighting, landscape and finishing work.
“This work will be completed under normal flagging operations,” PennDOT said.
