Officials say campsites, stockpiles a sign Burham in county
Michael C. Burham remains on the run, but officials could be closing in.
During a press conference Sunday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said they have found campsites and stockpiles they believe are connected to him within the region. These discoveries lead law enforcement to believe Burham is still in Warren County.
As of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a strong law enforcement presence on West Fifth Street was developing. At the same time, a major thunderstorm was expected to move into the area.
Officials also believe that since Burham has been free for more than 48 hours, it’s entirely possible that he is armed at this point based on his past behavior.
Troopers say that the U.S. Marshals Service has added a $7,500 reward – on top of $2,000 from Warren County Crime Stoppers – for information leading to his arrest.
Burham’s escape late Thursday night is the latest chapter in what has become a months-long saga. He is the prime suspect in the May 11 shooting death of 34-year-old Kala Hodgkin inside her William Street home in Jamestown. Afterward, the former Chautauqua County resident is accused of setting fire to another woman’s car in Jamestown.
More than a week after Hodgkin’s death, Burham allegedly kidnapped a Warren County couple from their Sheffield home at gunpoint. Using their vehicle, he drove the pair to South Carolina.
The couple was found safe, and Burham was eventually taken into custody after eluding police for days by running through the woods. In June, he was extradited back to New York state where he went before a federal judge in Buffalo.
Burham had been moved to Warren County on June 19.
Residents are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and call State Police if they have any information.
