Gas prices flat in region for the 4th except for Sheetz deal
Gas prices fell by a cent in the region for the holiday weekend though the price in Warren was essentially flat.
The regional price according to the AAA East Central Gas Price report was $3.637 while the average here is $3.698.
“Drivers hitting the road for the Fourth of July holiday are spending less on gasoline across most of the country,” the report concluded. “AAA forecasts that more than 50 million people are celebrating the nation’s birthday by traveling, with a record 43.2 million going by car.”
The national average for a gallon of gas fell two cents to $3.53.
The report cites data that shows a slight decrease in demand coupled with increased production.
“Lower gas demand amid increasing supply has helped to limit pump price increases,” the report concludes.
While the average might by $3.69 in Warren, a promotion for historically-priced gas drew substantial traffic to North Warren on Independence Day.
Why? Sheetz was offering gas for $1.776 per gallon.
The promotion covered all fuel grades (sans ethanol free and diesel) at over 675 Sheetz locations in Pa., Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
In North Warren, the promotion resulted in lines out onto both Rt. 62 and Jackson Run Rd. at times.
“Sheetz is a family owned and operated company and we are always looking for ways to assist the communities and customers that we serve,” Travis Sheetz, President and CEO of Sheetz, said. “We hope this discount helps our customers keep a little more change in their wallets as they travel to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and family, with an obvious nod to our nation’s birthday.”
