Chautauqua County on standby in Burham manhunt

While there a numerous police agencies in Pennsylvania searching for Michael Burham, police based in Chautauqua County have assisted as well and are ready to return if called.

Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone said their drone team and K-9 were utilized in the search the night Burham was reported escaped. “We were down there for quite a few hours. … Unfortunately there was no success but it helped rule out certain areas,” he said.

At this point, there are other Pennsylvania State and federal agencies that are using K-9s and drones, so Quattrone said they’re no longer needed. “Right now we’re more on standby for incidents that happen and reports that might happen in Chautauqua County,” he said.

So far, there are no leads showing Burham has returned to Chautauqua County, but Quattrone said they’re prepared, just in case.

One of Quattrone’s deputies attends the daily briefings where leads are shared among police authorities.

New York State troopers say they are helping as well. In a news release, police said, “New York State Police continue to assist Pennsylvania State Police and the United States Marshal Service in the manhunt of Michael Burham, 34 of Jamestown, NY. Burham escaped from Warren County Jail in Pennsylvania on July 7, 2023. … NYSP are working with Law Enforcement agencies in the area of NY and PA.”

Troopers remind residents to lock their doors and windows including vehicles. They also ask people to call 911 if they see Burham or believe he has taken something from your property.

They noted that Burham should be considered armed and dangerous.

Messages left at the State Police Barracks in Jamestown and at Troop A Headquarters in Batavia seeking further details were not returned Tuesday.
