Scouts from all over the Chief Cornplanter Council went on a world tour in Pine Grove Township last week.
The four-day Cub Camp was held at the Kinzua Heritage Festival Grounds on Fox Hill Road.
Cub Scouts traveled the globe spreading Scout spirit, Camp Director Dr. Ruth Barnes-Shaw said.
The destinations on Thursday included Asia and Australia. The scouts learned about Africa and the Middle East on Friday. From there, it was on to Europe on Saturday, and back home to the United States on Sunday.
Students played the Tibetan singing bowl, practiced traditional Middle Eastern dance — known locally as belly dancing, tried foods — vegemite, pasta, and crickets among them — related to certain regions, spoke in-person with international students from Jamestown Community College and via Zoom with a student from the United Kingdom, and worked on a Messengers of Peace project.

The program is about helping people and a project has to benefit community, country, or world. “One of the goals of Messengers of Peace is to promote sustainability.”
“We’re making a Peace Garden where people can meditate or pray,” Barnes-Shaw said. “Scouts do Messengers of Peace all over the world.”
In addition to their travels, the scouts learned traditional scout lore – from knot-tying, to BB gun and archery shooting and safety, knife safety, tie-dying, to the creation of the ideal s’more in the sixth annual Gourmet S’mores Competition.
