WGH Auxiliary awards six scholarships to area students

Trendon Dippold

Six area students have been awarded $1,000 for continued studies in a health care related field.

“Every year, the Warren General Hospital Auxiliary awards scholarships to area students enrolled in a health care field of study,” Janet Jespersen said.

“Thanks to community support of the WGH Auxiliary’s many fundraisers, such as the Christmas basket raffle, the WGH Gala dinner-dance and the many varied auxiliary sales, the WGH Auxiliary this year was able to award six student scholarships.”

Jespersen said that students submit a letter of interest, transcripts and recommendations.

“After studying many applications, the scholarship committee narrowed its selection down to a group of candidates for personal interviews,” she explained.

“Following a successful interview with the scholarship committee, the ‘best of the best’ that fulfilled all of the criteria will each receive a $1000 scholarship.”

The following students were selected: Trendon Dippold, studying to be a physician assistant at Gannon University; Lindsay Finch, studying to be a dental hygienist at Erie Community College; Cheyenne Wolcott, studying sonography at Great Lakes Institute of Technology; Emily Leichtenberger studying kinesiology at Penn State; Angelina Sabella studying sports medicine at Mercyhurst University and Caroline Smelko, studying biochemistry, molecular biology and nutritional science at Penn State.

“Thanks go to this year’s Scholarship Committee members, Deb Brewster, Beth Ellsworth, Anita Pellegrino and Becky Zerbe for their time and expertise during the interview process,” Jespersen added.
