Traffic change coming as roundabout heads to phase two

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Workers lay concrete on the south side of the roundabout at Market St. and Pennsylvania Ave. on Wednesday. With the work expected to proceed to phase two next week, that portion of the roundabout will carry eastbound traffic on Pennsylvania Ave.

Traffic patterns will change next week in downtown Warren as the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Market Street moved to a second phase.

Currently, traffic can proceed westbound through the intersection but that will shift to eastbound starting next week, according to a statement from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

“Stage two will include opening a portion of the roundabout to eastbound traffic on Pennsylvania Ave.,” Jill Harry, PennDOT press officer said.

Here’s a look at the detours that come along with the second phase: southbound traffic on Market Street will still use Route 62 to Laurel Street to Pennsylvania Avenue while northbound traffic will use Langdon Drive and Clark Street to get to Pennsylvania Avenue.

Westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue will use Fourth Avenue and Laurel Street.

A truck detour for westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue to Market Street heading north will use Pennsylvania Avenue East to the Glade Bridge, US 60 to Ludlow Street and then Pennsylvania Avenue to Laurel Street.

“Access to all businesses in that area will be maintained throughout the construction process,” Harry said. “Stage 2 is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.”

While the roundabout is the centerpiece of the project, other work includes sidewalks and crosswalks, truck aprons as well as improvements to lighting and drainage.

Starting at $3.50/week.
