Roundabout shifts to phase two on Friday
Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Paving is underway on the southern portion of the roundabout at Pennsylvania Ave. and Market St. in Warren. If the weather permits, traffic patterns will shift on Friday as the project moves from phase one to phase two.
If the weather holds, traffic patterns in downtown Warren impacted by the roundabout will change starting Friday.
PennDOT District Press Officer Jill Harry said that rain last week delayed the transition from phase one to phase two for construction at Pennsylvania Ave. and Market St.
“The schedule now calls for paving from state one to be finished Thursday,” Harry said. “We’re keeping a close eye on that forecast.”
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 40 percent chance of showers on Thursday and a 70 percent chance of rain on Friday.
Here’s a look at the detours that come along with the second phase: southbound traffic on Market Street will still use Route 62 to Laurel Street to Pennsylvania Avenue while northbound traffic will use Langdon Drive and Clark Street to get to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue will use Fourth Avenue and Laurel Street.
A truck detour for westbound traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue to Market Street heading north will use Pennsylvania Avenue East to the Glade Bridge, US 60 to Ludlow Street and then Pennsylvania Avenue to Laurel Street.
If the paving can be finished on Thursday, the change in traffic patterns would take place Friday, Harry said.
City officials believe that the change to phase two may help address truck traffic issues that have come with phase one.
“The truck traffic on Clark St. should ease up considerably,” City Manager Mike Holtz said. “It will get better when phase two comes….”
