First ‘bike-friendly business’ designated in Warren County

The goal of the PA Route 6 Alliance is fundamentally to promote the communities from the 11 counties that US 6 cuts through.

As trail, road and gravel biking expand throughout the region, promoting bicycle tourism has become a larger piece of the puzzle.

To that end, the PA Route 6 Alliance has designated its first “bike-friendly business” in Warren County – the Warren County Visitors Bureau.

“This Bike-Friendly Business designation is just one piece to this large puzzle,” WCVB Executive Director Casey Ferry said. “We get many cyclists in our area, from mountain bikers at the Trails at Jakes Rocks, to road cyclists on our scenic roads, to e-bikers, to gravelers, one of the newest trends.

The designation includes a poster at the WCVB with links to maps for various riding loops as well as links for things to do in the area.

Ferry said she’s hopeful other businesses in the county will seek the designation.

“We want to share the Warren County secret and encourage other businesses to consider the Bike-Friendly Business program. It’s a great way to get your business on a whole new map with a specific demographic and also a way for the businesses to start getting creative on bringing in the customers and learning the modern customer’s wants and needs.”

She cited data that shows bicyclists nationally spend $83 billion nationally per year on trip-related sales and generate $97 billion in retail spending in addition to spending 20 percent more than other tourists.

“With these statistics and the fact that Warren County has a variety of cycling opportunities, we are happy to promote our cycling assets and help the tourists and local economy all at once,” Ferry added.
