League of Women Voters to host commissioner candidate forum

Warren County will elect at least two new county commissioners this election cycle.

And the League of Women Voters of Warren County will be hosting a candidate forum on May 10 to hear from the candidates that are seeking the office in the upcoming primary. The event will start at 6 p.m. and be held at the Warren Public Library.

All seven candidates — Republicans Will Champlin, Troy Clawson, Tricia Durbin, Jeff Eschborn, Ken Klakamp and Joseph Perrin and Democrat Dan Glotz — will be participating.

“The goal is to have informed voters to make decisions on candidate’s knowledge, opinions and expected actions on issues affecting business, industry and families,” said Phyllis Wright, the league’s vice president of communications.

Each candidate has been given two questions in advance related to their vision and priorities.

Those with questions, can ask by emailing lwvwc@yahoo.com before the event. There will also be an opportunity to submit questions the night of the forum.

“Questions should relate to public issues rather than political parties,” Wright said. “No wearable or political materials will be allowed in the Slater room where the event is held. Another location will be available for advertising literature.”

The forum is expected to run about 90 minutes.

Wright detailed the wide range of issues that are expected to be addressed – elections, property assessment and taxes, human services, courts and corrections, planning and land use, emergency services and transportation, among others.

“This is an educational opportunity for voting citizens to learn the knowledge and opinions of candidates who will be on the primary election ballot on May 16,” she stressed.

Starting at $3.50/week.
