The search for a man wanted for questioning in relation to a Thursday morning homicide in Jamestown, N.Y., continued Friday.
Jamestown Police, with the help of police agencies in Warren County, and the FBI, are looking for Michael C. Burham, 34.
Police did not identify Burham as a suspect, but, he is reported as potentially armed and dangerous.
Jamestown Police said Kala M. Hodgkin, 34, was found dead at a William Street home early Thursday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and everyone involved,” the Jamestown Police Department said in a brief statement.
“We are still looking for Mr. Burham and still believe he is in the Warren area,” Chief Tim Jackson said Friday. “We are working closely with local police departments in Pennsylvania as well as the Pennsylvania State Police and FBI to locate him.”
Burham’s Ram truck was located Thursday evening in the city of Warren after police received a credible tip.
Jackson said police do not believe he represents a public threat.
“At this time we have no reason to believe he would harm an uninvolved citizen,” he said. “There is/was a relationship between him and the victims. The acts were targeted.”
Anyone who sees Burham is asked to call 911, Jamestown Police Department at (716) 483-7537 or the anonymous tip line at (716) 483-8477. Calls and tips to Jamestown Police will be kept confidential.
“The public should not approach or confront him and if they see him they should contact law enforcement immediately,” Jackson said.
“Any time there is a homicide, and that’s what we’re dealing with here, we’re called to the scenes so that we can assist with law enforcement in order to develop and preserve evidence. We’ve done that,” Chautauqua County (N.Y.) District Attorney Jason Schmidt said during a Thursday press conference. “There’s been a number of avenues that we’ve pursued on our side. We’ve also reached out to our law enforcement partners outside the state and we’ve gotten some contribution from a number of different agencies here in Chautauqua County, outside the county.”
Schools in Jamestown remain on a lockout Friday “out of an abundance of caution,” according to Jamestown police.
There were disruptions to Youngsville schools, including to dismissal on Thursday. Those did not continue on Friday.
“JPD continues to believe that there is no immediate threat to schools,” according to a Friday release.
