Electorate votes for change on school board
The recent iteration of the decades-long debate about the number of high schools in the county will shake up the board.
Unofficial returns posted by the county Election’s Office show that Tuesday’s primary election was a bad day for incumbents on the school board and a good day for proponents of community high schools.
Five new members will in all probability be elected to the board in the fall General Election.
There were two four-year terms and a two-year term up in Region II as well as two four-year terms in Region III and a single seat in Region I.
In Region II, Stepnanie Snell (874) and Tammi Holden (874) secured the Republican nominations followed by incumbents Joe Colosimo (549) and Donna Zariczny (365).
Savanna Cochran (729 votes) decisively secured the nomination for a two-year seat in Region II over Zariczny and Colosimo.
In Region III, Daniel Sullivan (809) and Wendy MacQueen (773 votes) were the two top vote-getters on the Republican side, followed by Kris Hodak (755) and incumbent Kevin Lindvay (516).
Candidates can cross-file for school board.
Holden and Snell were also the top two on the Democratic side in Region II followed by Colosimo and Zariczny. Cochran also secured the nomination for the two-year seat on the Democratic side.
Hodak and Sullivan appear to have emerged on the Democratic side with 289 and 278 votes, respectively. Lindvay has 212 in that race.
John Wortman – the sole candidate on the ballot – sailed through on both tickets for the seat in Region I.
