Council to meet, ‘reset’ riverfront development

The Warren City Council will be holding a session this evening to “reset” the scope of riverfront development.

The work session is set for 6 p.m. and will be at the site at the foot of Liberty Street.

“Unfortunately, we weren’t successful in Build Back Better,” City Manager Mike Holtz said.

That was a regional grant proposal that would have brought $7.25 million in federal funding to the riverfront.

“Since that time, we have tried to re-look at the project,” Holtz said, and determine “where are we today? What funding do we have so far? What can we get done? What are other components?”

He said a presentation has been prepared that will highlight the status of the project as it sits today.

“Anybody can certainly come,” he said, though he acknowledged there won’t be anything new presented for people who have kept informed on the project.

Technically, the meeting is a city council work session, meaning that it’s informational and no decisions will be made by council.

“Build Back Better was certainly an opportunity… to make a large impact,” he said. “Now we have to chip away at it as best we can and try to get funding. This is more of a pause (to define) ‘This is where we are, where we are going and what we hope to achieve.'”

In the event of inclement weather, the session will be moved to the municipal building.

Starting at $3.50/week.
