Elections office readies for primary

The Warren County Elections Office is gearing up for the May primary.

Monday, May 1, is the last day to register to vote in the Tuesday, May 16, primary.

Director of Elections Krystle Ransom said her office is conducting logic and accuracy testing on the county’s voting equipment this week.

Mail-in and absentee ballot applications continue to come into the office.

“We’re at about 1,200 mail-in and absentee applications,” Ransom said. The figure for the November general election was about 1,700.

“The last day to register for a mail-in ballot is Tuesday, May 9,” she said.

The municipal primary will feature a number of county and local races.

All three Warren County Commissioner seats are up this year, with only one incumbent – Tricia Durbin – running for re-election.

Republican voters will see Durbin’s name, along with those of Ken Klakamp, Troy Clawson, Joseph Perrin, Jeff Eschborn and Will Champlin.

Democrats will only see one candidate for commissioner – Dan Glotz – in the vote-for-two position.

There are six seats on the Warren County School board up for election.

Region I voters of both major parties will see John Wortman and no one else on the ballot for one seat.

In Region II, there are two four-year terms and a two-year term up. All candidates are cross-filed and will appear on both Republican and Democratic ballots. They are incumbents Donna Zariczny and Joe Colosimo and hopefuls Tammi Holden and Stephanie Snell, for the four-year terms, and Zariczny, Colosimo, and Savanna Cochran for the two-year seat.

The Region III candidates are vying for two four-year seats. They are: Kristopher Hodak, Daniel Sullivan, and incumbent Kevin Lindvay, who are all cross-filed, and Wendy Maqueen, who will only appear on Republican ballots.

There are two Republicans and no Democrats seeking the posts of both sheriff – Ken Hinton and Scott Neiswonger – and treasurer – Lisa Barr and Jolean Ishman.
