Veterans of Foreign Wars is pretty self-explanatory.

But, the VFW Auxiliary is another matter.

Students at Tidioute Community Charter School learned about the community’s VFW Auxiliary during a recent assembly.

Auxiliary President Julie Golla, Youth Chairman Doris Svitak, and Patriot Instructor Jane Novak presented an informational assembly for middle and high school students, telling them about the objectives and obligations of the organization.

“The objects of this organization shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable and educational, to assist the posts and members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States, and its own members whenever possible; to maintain true allegiance to the government of the United States of America and Fidelity to its constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institution of American freedom and equal rights and justice to all men and women; and to preserve and defend the United States of America from all her enemies,” according to the presentation.

Novak presented information about the American flag and etiquette surrounding it.

Novak and VFW Veterans Les Lindemuth and Gary Prohaska presented a demonstration of the 13 folds and explained what each fold means.

“Since 1914, the VFW Auxiliary has united Americans from all walks of life with a common purpose: to improve the lives of veterans, service members and their families, and our communities,” according to the VFW Auxiliary website. “Our programs are designed to bring needed services, information and assistance to these target groups.”

Flags were given to students and teachers.

Starting at $3.50/week.
