The Silver Winds Flute Choir will present a free concert – Celtic and Classics – at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at First United Methodist Church, Warren.
“This performance marks St Patrick’s Day with a celebration of Celtic and classical music,” Coordinator Becky Darbee said. “The program includes selections that are traditional tunes: Give me Your Hand, Women of Ireland, Planxty Fannie Powers and Planxty Irwin, along with selections written or arranged in Celtic style. Glen Fiddich by Michael Coolen and Scottish Flute Stomp arranged by Scott are good examples of this style.”
Among the classic folk tunes on the list are The Water is Wide, Scarborough Fair, Morning Has Broken, and Jesus Lover of My Soul.
The group will perform Galway Fantasy, a celebration of James Galway – the man with the golden flute.
In addition to some classical works, the program also includes two American folk tunes and Mouret’s Rondeau and Fanfare for the Kind’s Supper.
The Silver Winds was formed in 2007 with five musicians from the Warren County area and has grown to up to 10, with seven set to perform at the Sunday concert.
The performers play several different flutes – C flute, piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute, and a wide range of musical styles.
