Library fundraiser ends this week

This week is the last opportunity to get support Youngsville Library’s annual “Love Your Library” raffle. Swing by to get chances Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. Drawing date is Friday, March 31st after business hours. There are 11 themed-options each at a value of $100 or more. For a $5.00 donation you receive 5 tickets to use towards the gift-card, cash, and lottery themed options of your choice. Sensory story time: Tuesday, March 28th from 10:30 am – 11:00 am, will be a specialized “Sensory Storytime” targeting developmental ages 4 and up. Sensory Storytime is a bit more structured as it focuses on movement, activities that emphasize fine- and gross-motor skills, stories, and peer interactions. No registration required. Sensory Storytime will be offered the 4th Tuesday of each month and our Toddler Storytime will continue to be offered the 2nd Tuesday of each month; both from 10:30 am – 11:00 am.

BORO NEWS

Boro Spring Clean-up: Spring Clean up for Youngsville Borough Residents will be Saturday 05/13/2023 from 8:00 am – noon at the Boro Parking lot (40 Railroad Street). Cost is $10 per car-load and $20 per truck-load. Id is required as this spring clean-up is for Boro Residents only. No: tires, batteries, paint cans, propane tanks, desktop/laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals (accessories), televisions, or any other electronic devices, or hazardous materials. Please note: next year the charge per car and per truck will increase (due to current price increases for this program).

Free Community Expo: SAVE THE DATE! Friday, April 21st from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm there will be a FREE Community Expo at the Youngsville Fire Hall. Sponsored by Youngsville Heart & Soul in partnership with the Rouse Children’s Center. Free Admission. There will be food, games, prizes, entertainment, etc. There will also be information on area clubs, organizations, and businesses. More information coming soon.

Odd/Even Parking: Reminder that Odd/Even parking is still in effect through March 31st. On ODD number days of the week, please continue to park on the ODD house number side of the street; on EVEN number days of the week, please continue to park on the EVEN house number side of the street. Downtown Vision Survey: Let your opinions be heard! There is an important “Downtown Vision Survey” created by Heart & Soul and it only takes about 7 minutes to complete online and is mostly multiple-choice response. Rather have a paper copy? You can pick one up at the Boro office. This is your chance to voice your opinion on what you’d like to see improved downtown: more recreation options? better signage? maybe a place to sit, eat, and relax downtown? Your opinion matters. A link to the survey is located on Youngsville Library’s homepage: YoungsvilleLibrary.org. It’s important to get as many age groups as possible, so please be sure members of your family take the survey too! Questions: contact the Boro Office 563-4604.

FUNDRAISERS

GVFD Gun Bingo: Saturday, April 1st the Garland Fire Hall is holding a Gun Bingo fundraiser. Doors open at 5:00 pm, Bingo starts at 6:30 pm. Kitchen will be open, BYOB. Must be 18 years of age to attend. 10 Games of Bingo (minimum), $30 donation per ticket, must play bingo to win guns. Guns supplied by C&H Sports. There will also be side raffles, 50/50 raffle, and instant tickets. Benefits Garland Volunteer Fire Department. For Tickets call 814-688-8729. April Lottery Drawing: The Wrightsville & Garland VFD are partnering to hold an April Lottery Drawing Fundraiser from April 1st – April 30th for cash and guns. Donation is $10 per ticket for 2 numbers. Benefits both Wrightsville & Garland VFD. 500 tickets will be sold. Winners will be determined by the PA lottery pick 3 nightly number. IN the event 2 numbers are drawn on the same day the first number will be used. IN the event no number is drawn, we will use the previous day’s number in reverse. All unsold tickets become property of the Wrightsville & Garland VFD. All cash winner will be paid by check. Details about payout schedule and gun payout dates can be found on GVFD’s Facebook page. Interested in purchasing a ticket? Volunteers are at the Garland Fire station on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Sunday mornings from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, please stop by to get tickets.

Fish Fry: The final day of the Lenten Fish Fry at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis Street)is Friday, March 31st from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Take out is available. Cost is $13 and includes: Fish, choice of potato, choice of coleslaw or applesauce, roll, beverage, and dessert.

GVFD Fish Fry: Garland VFD is having a Fish Fry fundraiser on Friday, April 7th starting at 5:00 pm. Cost is $13.00 and includes: Fish, French fries or baked potato, coleslaw, roll, drink, & dessert. Additional options: a half-portion fish dinner for $7.00 or Full-piece fish only (no sides) for $7.00. Dine in or take out available.

EASTER EGG HUNTS

Island Park: Saturday, April 8th starting at 11:00 am the Youngsville American Legion will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt for ages 0-10 years. This egg hunt is sponsored by the following Youngsville American Legion groups: The Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Legion Riders. This is a free event.

Free Methodist: Saturday, April 8th starting at 1:00 pm, the Youngsville Free Methodist Church (179 Davis Street) will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt for ages Toddler – 12 years old. This is a free event. If you would like to help fill eggs, please join us on April 4 at 10 am at Youngsville Free Methodist. The church is also looking for some bakers for the Easter Egg Hunt day. If you would like to donate 2 dozen cookies for the Egg Hunt, please contact the church office at: 814-563-9009.

OTHER EVENTS

SAE Open house: Wednesday, March 29th through Saturday, April 1st the Warren Antiques & Giftware at SAE (306 Second Avenue, Warren) will be holding an Open House. There will be gifts available to the first 100 shoppers! Also food tasting will be available at different times daily. Be sure to stop by.

Audubon Lights: On Saturday, March 25th, Friday, March 31st, Saturday, April 1st, Friday, April 7th, and Saturday, April 8th from 8:15 pm – 10:00 pm each evening, the Audubon Nature Center (1600 Riverside Drive, Jamestown) is having an “Audubon Lights” event. Audubon lights up the spring with a half-mile long trail of lights at the Nature Center. Cost is $12 per adult ($9 per Nature Center Member), $9 per child (ages 2 and under free). You can buy your tickets on line (reservations are appreciated) but walk-ins welcome too. Visit their website for tickets and more info: Auduboncnc.org. Walk a luminary-lit trail past ponds that reflect the illuminated trees and stars above. Creative light displays and laser light shows highlight natural features in new ways. The trail ends at the Nature Center with a warm fire, hot drinks, popcorn, and other food for sale- as well as alternating nights of music and LED hula-hoopers. The Nature Center building will be open during the event so you can play in the indoor nature play area, warm up inside, visit the live animals, or shop in the Blue Heron Gift Shop.

You may bring your own flashlight but can also purchase a small LED light at the entrance for additional fun as well as glasses that refract the light to make the trail even more amazing! It’s recommended to bring cash to make purchasing easier. Audubon Lights Membership bonus: If you sign up for an Audubon membership at the event, you will receive a discount on your event tickets and free LED lighted trinkets.
