Rapunzel needs a tower.
Red Riding Hood’s grandmother needs a home.
And the other characters in the All-County Junior Musical need homes and places to visit.
Students from the Warren County Career Center Building Construction Occupations (BCO) class are building parts of the sets.
Those students worked on stage at Warren Area High School starting Friday and will be there Monday and possibly Tuesday, according to teacher Greg Waterman.

The students used the skills they’ve honed at the career center to create some new set pieces and to repurpose others. The work on the musical’s needs has occupied about four weeks of classroom time.
That time is not at the expense of the curriculum.
“Building these is just like framing a wall or a floor,” Waterman said.
“It relates to what we’ve done in the classroom,” student Garrett Dunham said.
Because the sets are not permanent structures, the students have to create them with some flexibility. “It’s a different project, but it still falls within the carpentry scheme,” Waterman said.

While that carpentry work is a natural fit with that portion of the curriculum of the course, it’s a step outside of what the students have been doing recently.
Dunham explained that the course has focused on electrical and plumbing aspects of construction.
“We’re getting back to carpentry,” Dunham said. “It’s a nice break.”
The students have found ways to save money and materials in the sets.
“We reuse a lot of pieces and make them work for a different set,” Dunham said.
“It’s a group effort,” Dunham said. About 10 students worked on the sets Friday morning, with a new group of about the same number coming in for the afternoon.
The show — Into the Woods Junior — takes the stage at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, and Friday, March 10, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 11.
