Registration open for Polar Plunge at Winterfest

We haven’t had much snow and ice yet but it’s still plenty cold most days.
And it’s unlikely to be much warmer by the time Winterfest — and the Polar Plunge, a fundraiser for the Salvation Army — rolls around.
Running into an icy Chapman Dam Reservoir might sound like a crazy idea.
Salvation Army Captains Shane and Dorothy Budd will experience that for the first time this year.
Winterfest is set for Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. as part of the weekend’s slate of events for Winterfest.
“‘Why would anyone want to jump into a lake during winter?’ are some thoughts that came to mind when we first heard of The Polar Bear Plunge,” Capt. Dorothy Budd said. “The only reason I can imagine doing this is because people want to be freezing for a reason.”
Capt. Shane Budd called the plunge a “significant” fundraiser that “helps support the programs of the Salvation Army for those of our community members in need.
“Winterfest will provide Warren County residents and the whole northwest Pennsylvania region with fun and exciting opportunities.”
