Reassessment contract, ESL grant approved

Warren County has an agreement that will kick off the property tax reassessment process.

The commissioners approved the contract with Vision Government Services on Wednesday.

Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said approval will initiate a public relations campaign on the project, which will outline timelines and parameters for the project.

“It’s good for the community to understand how this is going to work,” he said. “It’s going to be a learning curve for everybody.”

He said that new assessed values will not take effect until 2025. “This is a multi-year process,” he added, calling it “something that’s needed to be done for a couple of decades in the county.”

In other business, the commissioners approved a grant request of $9,100 for English as a second language support as part of a broader Ukrainian refugee resettlement effort.

The funds — allocated to First Lutheran Church — would allow adults and non-school aged children to receive ESL support via an agreement with the school district.

Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said the resettlement effort is “very strategic for the long-term viability of the county” and also provides an opportunity to be “welcoming to all people, especially refugees.”

He called it a “poignant” moment for the county to shine and said the grant request is a “relatively minor amount of money given the impact it will have.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
