Planners talk comp plan, subdivision

A comprehensive plan update and a subdivision were the main issues before the City of Warren Planning Commission on Wednesday.

The comprehensive plan, which lays out a slate of projects that can shape the future, still requires council approval as final adoption.

Director of Codes and Planning Randy Rossey said the plan is to ask council to set a required public hearing for March.

That, he said, would set the stage for council to “vote whether or not to adopt” the plan.

Many of the projects outlined in the plan won’t include significant financial investments. Several focus on developing resources and alleviating regulatory issues at the city level.

Other steps focus specifically on building redevelopment.

“Improving the look of upper stories in downtown Warren does not have to always include expensive or difficult solutions,” the plan states. “Some simple actions can go a long way to improve the look of downtown buildings,” specifically mentioning murals and window coverings.”

The subdivision before the panel on Wednesday was regarding 107 Fourth Ave. The goal of the change, according to the owner, is to give his children a bigger yard to play in.

Scott Taylor, the city’s zoning officer, said the city is not opposed to the change. It will include the partial removal of a large garage.

“We will work with him (on) what what he needs or wants torn down,” Taylor said.

The commission unanimously approved the change.

Starting at $3.50/week.
