Man receives probation for reckless endangerment

A Warren man received probation during sentence court on Friday for driving a vehicle with his grandson in his lap.

William L. Dale, 61, Warren, was before Judge Gregory Hammond on Friday for charges including recklessly endangering another person.

His attorney, Alan Conn, said his client recognizes that the conduct was “dangerous” but that Dale has his hands over the child’s hands.

Dale apologized for his conduct.

Hammond pointed out that it “takes one distracted driver coming the other direction” for serious injury to occur.

He also called the conduct “something maybe done in the past (but) can’t be done anymore.”

Dale was then sentenced to two years probation, $375 in fines and fees, 40 hours of community service and drug and alcohol treatment on a count of recklessly endangering another person as well as $245 and a 12-month license suspension for driving on a suspended license.

The only other individual sentenced Friday was Louis E. Neely, 40, Grand Valley.

Neely was sentenced to five years probation including 30 days incarceration, 60 days house arrest, $1,816.58 in restitution, $2,575 in fines and fees, participation in the alcohol highway safety school and victim impact panel programs, an 18-month license suspension, 60 hours of community service, drug and alcohol treatment, submission of a DNA sample and work release on a second-offense DUI as well as a $1,000 fine on a charge of driving on a DUI-related suspended license.

Starting at $3.50/week.
