Police issue warning over counterfeit fentanyl suspected to have killed two in Warren County this week
An influx of counterfeit fentanyl pills is suspected to have contributed to two drug overdose deaths in Warren County in the past week.
Warren City Police Chief Joe Sproveri in a statement Wednesday said investigations are underway regarding suspected fentanyl that is circulating in the area.
“The pills are small, blue in color and stamped with the marking ‘M30,'” he said. “These pills are extremely dangerous and are suspected to have caused at least two drug overdose fatalities in Warren County in the past week.”
He says anyone that observes similar pills should not touch them and call police immediately.
A multi-agency investigation is ongoing, according to law enforcement sources.
Similar pills, about 9 pounds in total, were recovered in a traffic stop earlier this month in Jamestown. A Florida woman is facing a federal charge tied to that recovery.
It’s unclear if the same pills seized in Jamestown are the same circulating in Warren.
A full story will be published in Thursday’s paper.
